MINING INTELLIGENCE.
Scarcity of water for some time past has rendered mining operations in the Cromwell district somewhat dull. This has been more especially the case in the Bannockburn and Garrick districts, although every locality has suffered more or less by the continued drought. From Bendigo we learn that the Cromwell Company cleaned up last week, the result being 408oz 15dwt of cold from 250 tons of stone. This was less than anticipated, but the reef in the deep shafts had split up into various veins, with mullock between, in some parts Bft wide. This was all crushed the full width, which made the stone appear poor. Since then the reef has come to its original size, about 2ft wide, with good payable stone. From appearances the present crushing should be far better than the last, as the stone looks richer. —‘ Cromwell Argus.’
