Mr Skcae reports that there has been a fyirfnquirj for ploughmen and farm and country bands during the week, hut there ia not the usual activity of the season. Town demand for ordinal; labor is limited. The building trade is quiet. Storemen and clerks too plentiful. Conplca are asked for. Female servants, as usual, very scarce. Shepherds seldom asked for at this season. Wages •.—Ploughmen, L 53, L 55, and L6O; couples, L 65 to L 80; housekeepers, L 52; housemaids, L3O to L4O; dairymaids and ordinary, L 35 to L4O; cooks, laundresses, waitresses, barmaids, and hotel people, from 15a to 30s per week; useful boys and girls, 6s to 10s; day labor, at road, rail, and bush, 8s and 9s; carpenters, 11b, 12s, and 13s; bricklayers for country, 15s.
