Before proceedings wefe taken veiy careful' ■ and cautious inquiries were made, wniohi;justified the police in their action.;. Dr. Murphy 'wonldprove the state the little girl was in. The girl was not fit to appear before the Court, a£d therefore-he would ask for a remand.—-Dr. MurpKy stated- thatthe girl would be unable to appeal before the Court for hf least four days. Shop-uftikg.— Francis Wm, Fordei* was charged by James Hardie, clothier, with stealing from his gremises, on March 31. one sealskin cap and one lack bat, of the value of L2 8s 6a.—Robert M'Bkim, waggoner, said that while-coning along Princes street at about 5.20 yesterday afternoon be noticed witness taken bat from outside prosecutor's shop-door, at the 5 corner of Princeis and High streets, and place it another article. A Nice Famiw.—Patrick Collins, ialittlb fellow,' was charged by William Smith with Conduct calculated to provoke a breach of. the peace, at Green Island.—Prosecutor stated that ho vaa employed by Mrs Jones, of Green Island, in whose ebaploy prisoner and his father-also were/ Prisoner, without any provocation, aimed a blow at him with on axe, but witness stepping oh' one side, the blow missed him.' r~ Timothy ■Collins, the father, was then charged by Henry Lane with nsing threatening language towards him, whereby he was afraid he would do him some grievous bodily barm.—Mr G. Gook.whorer presented Mrs Jones, said that prisoner bad been employed by Mrs JoneS, hilt bad been bebabing in a most violent manner, and flourishing a revolver about the place. The police had been obdsed to interfere to protect her property.—Prosecutor proved the charge. Defendant bod threatened to smash bis brains out and to paint the walls with them.—Defendant said Mrs -Jones owed him LSO, and would not pay him. He had served her with ’ a summons for the amouut.-rr-Mr Cook said that the claim was on exorbitant onp, and defendant refused to leave the promises till he got the money. Mrs Jones bad no wish to press the charges, if defen'■dant’s family would only leave the premises.—' Collins promised to do so, and the -charges weVe adjourned till Monday, to give him rau opportunity? of so doing. . ... .■ ,
