The new screw steamer Matau, built to the order of the late Mr G. F. Reed, has been handed over to her owner, and will make its first trip to Balclutha, Ac.', to-morrew. The Union Company’s chartered s.s. Wanganui, from Lyttelton via Timaru,’arrived alongside the railway pier at 10.30 this morning. She brings a largo cargo, including 1,207 sacks of grain for transhipment to Melbourne by the s.s. Albion. The Wanganui left Lyttelton at 5.15 p.m. on the 27th; arrived at Akaroa at 10.30 p.m.; left again at 1.30 a.m. on tbe 28th; arrived at Timaru at noon ; took on board, besides other cargo, 1,207 sacks of barley, and left for Port Chalmers at 6.30 p.m., arriving as above. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, March 28.— The Colima sailed South at 2 p.m. Passengers for Dunedin: Rev. Mr De Berdthull and wife, and Mrs G. The Hawea sailed South at noon. Hokitika, March 29.— The Alhambra arrived in the roadstead from Melbourne yesterday. Passengers for Dunedin: Mr and Mrs John Cargill and family (2), and servant; Miss Balcou.be, Mrs Young and child, Mr P. Dickson, and 5 steerage. She has no cargo for Dunedin. Lyttelton, March 28. —Arrived ; Maori, from Nelson. Sailed: Albion, for the South, at 4 p.m. Bluff, March 29.—Arrived, at 8 a.m.: The Otaki, ship, from Lyttelton. Grahaubtown, March 29. —Arrived, last night: The barque Estelle, from Port Chalmers on the 22nd.
