AMUSEMENTS.

THE OPERA.: Last evening the opera of “ La Pills de Madame Angot, * of the plot of which we gave a short sketch yesterday, was played to one of the best houses of the season. For a first performance the whole opera went very evenly. The few short-c .linings 'noticeable last night will, no doubt, disappear in the future performances. The music,*• both instrumental and vocal, is very, beautiful;: bright, and sparkling. It is, hqwever. too rapid in its movement, and in many cases too novel in its. effects to be fully appreciated 'in one, hearing. The principal parts were taken by Madame Simonson, Miss Lambert, Signor Motley, and Messrs Hodgson, Letison, and Stembach. JUaJame Bimousen played the part of Clairette about as well as it could be done. Neither her singing nor acting left anything to be desired. Lambert also entered into the spirit o£ the character she represent id, and her acting and singing were received with hearty applause. Signor Morley, as he always does, sang well, but the part of Ange Pi ton did not suit him, and apart from his sing* mg he did not appear to advantage in it. Some of the concerted’ music was'very fine,' and was* highly appreciated. The conspirators' chorus was novel and effective, but the quarrelling duet between M&dfluo Simonson and Miss Lambert brought down the house, and was unanimously encored. The whelp,, operawaa the stage; the Kenery, cmects, and dresses were very fine, and reflect'-great credit on the management. We mast not mil .to mention -the dancing of the Leopold family,, the excellence of which largely tended to the Successful rendering of many of the scenes.' We see that the opera u to be repeated to-night and until further notice. :
