A large amount of money is stak d on them This morning at about 4.30 o’clock when the steamer Jane Douglas was approaching the channel between Portland Island and the mainland she si rock on the edge of thereof throwing the passengers out of theT bunks. No a rious damage was ascertained to have occurred to the vessel, nor was there any alarm amongst the passengeis. The Jane Douglas arrived at Gisb rne at noon. • A man named Alexander was drowned at Mohaka yesterday thtough the boat capsizing. He arrived recently from Wellington.
