TRAINING NOTES.

The weather still continues settled and all that could be desired by trainers. The course is in fine condition, but a day's heavy rain would not do it any harm. It has been closed during the week, but will be open from to-morrow till Sunday for trainers. In its present hard abate there, seems no reason why It should not be used ,up to the day before'the races, for it is impossible for the horses to cut it up as they would if the weather wasbad. Owners and trainers would look upon this as a great boon, for they dare not send their horses fast on the dry, loose tan. This morning Gamecock again opened the hall before daylight, going three times round by himself. Last nighr he was knocked about considerably in the betting market; owing Id a rbport • that he had'got pricked' when belrig shod; . but there didnottaeem mnbh toe matter with himjthis, morning. His stable-companions Jack the Flat. and. . Wild Manx Boy . followed him,' all three taking their spins " alpne.,,’.'Wild Manx>: : Boy ■ Went ■ very strong,''brit 'he is teo big. Hedge gave the viciouadooking cilfe Haruha, by Towton—Fair Puritan, a two-mile' gallop. The missing'Stahtreuss turned Up again! with Monaghan’s team’ to-day, but she is all to! pieces, - Merry Monarch is not much .better than’ the mare, and he • was only leid about; ■ PongaweroWere and Steamer were stripped- and sent together) twice round, when the coltfed but and ElSnKihg in his clothing finished anbther round with the Cup: filly. Fungawecewere still goes in good form, but I' do not'fancy her for'a long race. : Templeton was 1 content withone round of the .tan. commencing at aj canter and patting bn the, paw'aHttle at the flnfah ! He_ would appear to be' in'rather a precariouscou-, - dition yet, and there id Only s' ‘week to go.' AmoMa. Korarl, and■ GnyFawkes were next on the ground, l and Mr Bedwood had the last two stripped and sent* twice round atn nice gallop, v The older horse went; the . better of the two,, hut .both, have .a- very, taking way of getting over 'the. ground. . Amohia' is, I believe, not quiteherself, and sbe did no work. The Otago champions were out, but having done plenty lately they were treated ’ to walking exercise only. Their , conditdoa wiJl stand comparison .' with that of ; any horse bn the course. Cloth of Gold and TommyDodd were also ! -idlers this morning, arid Mr Canton's pair—Seabird i and Merrybird—followed suit. Salodin, Who used! •to. run at our minor meetings, had-a gallop three times round, and Sir William—a Cup outsider—had | a mile and a-half,gallop. He -wants a good deal i taken off him yet if he wants to be at the right end of the big race. Dan O’Brien’s Auckland Kate.did' no work, having, I believe, cut her root whenflbing' a gallop on Monday; but Fishhook Haphazard! went twice round at amiddling pace.. The colt isj not up to Cup form yet. ■ Lynch took Lyndon three' times round, the old horse going strong andnalling; up fresh. Eight Bower walked only. It 'Will 1 be; seen that there was not much done this morning,: but tomorrow the course will be greatly in requi- \ sition, and there will..be .a large crowd of on-i lookers. A previously much felt want has-been, supplied this year, pus of the' bbo(.hllolders - proVidirig coffee arid eatables for such as requite're- ■ fresliment. '■ '■ • ; }•' ‘ PSOAStTS.
