A CONTRADICTION.
We have to acknowledge a verycourtieouß letter from Messrs Macassey and *Kettle, the subject of which is explained in the following extract:—'• ■ .
We are instructed by Mr David Hunter Mervyn, to communicate with you: with reference to a telegram which appeared in' the issue of your paper of the 7th instant, and of which the following is a copy:— ; , 0

„ “ Boxburgh, March 7. Mr Mervyn, ex M.H-B. for Mount Ida, wol horsewhipped here by one Sutherland oh Friday last. The affair rose through Mervyn having, : as is alleged, branded some of- Sutherland's Sheep." We are instructed to inform you that the stated meats therein contained are utterly false.
