PRESENTATION.

'An interesting ceremony took place in the principal office of the Resident Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, when Mr W. P. James (who has very satisfactorily folfilled -the Chief Glerk’s -duties- duriMM the temporary absence of Mr W. P. Street in Melbourne) was piesented with a testimonial. In the unavoidable absence of the Resident Magistrate (J. Bathgate, Esq,, R.M.), Mr W. p. Street saidhehad been requested by the officers of the department to present MrJames witifttsmßll token of l&eirelteem and regard, which consisted, of a very handsome gold locket, bearing the following inscription “A souvenir presented toW. P. James, Esq.,by the officers of the-Resident Magistrate’s Court, - Dunedin, 11th March, 1876.” Air Street, in the' course of a neat speech, complimented Mi Joined upon the efficiency he had dismayed in discharging his duties here. Mr James expressed his surprise ■A receiving the gift, and thanked the offloen of the Court for the hearty assistance they had rendered him in getting through the work. . He would always have a pleasant recollection of the tune he had spent in Dunedin. An adjournment was made to Watson’s Hotel, where the health of Mr James and other toasts were duly honored. Mr James was a passenger for Wellington per the Lady Bird this afternoon.
