PERTH, ANGUS, AND MEARNS ASSOCIATION.

The first annual meeting of the above was held at Murray’s Hotel last night. We make the following extracts from the committee’s report At the first general meeting, held on 12th March last year, forty-five names were enrolled of parties desirous-of joining, and twenty-eight additional names were given in at the second general meeting, held on the I9th of same month. Since then, about a dozen more names have been added, making in nil about eighty-five; but only fifty-four have paid their subscription fee of 10s, so as to constitute themselves members. After payment of necessary expenses, there is a b lance at the credit ot the Association of Ll6 2s 6d. During the past year there has only been one case requiring assistance provided for under clause 2 of the association's rules. A family belonging to Forfarshire arrived here by one of the recent immigrant vessels in a rather destitute condi ion, and applied totbe association for. support. After making fall inquiries into the circumstances, your committee found it was a cose really deserving assistance, and accordingly a sum of three guineas was advanced, which, or course, Wilt be repaid as soon as the re- 1 cipients are in a position to do so, and this will in all probability soon he accomplished, as, through the influence of-certain members of theassociation, the head of the family has obtained a suitable sitnatiou. Other immigrants have also derived the latter benefit, in consequence of individual members exerting themselves, in many instances successfully, to procure employment for them, and this alone is highly commendable. The corresponding secretary has placed, himself in communication with the Home papers. belonging to the shires repesented by this association, with the view ■ of affording' every information connected with the resources, etc., Of this Province, and this will he of great service to intending emigrants.—An attempt was made some time since to get the various associations in existence here to combine in procuring suitable rooms for the purpose of holding meetings, etc., but after several fruitless efforts the project had t6 be abandoned. The matter has, however, , again been revived, and it is to be hoped the result will be more successful this time. The idea is to have, say a couple of rooms in a central position in the town, where, during certain evenings in each week, members of the various associations could meet together and, by friendly intercourse, cement a firm and lasting bond of brotherhood amonest parties resident here hailing from their “ aiu kiutra side.” Each member would be expected to contribute whatever newspapers he received from Home, and to supply as many books, magazines, etc., as possible, thus making the rooms as pleasant and comfortable as could be expected. Mr W. f>. Stewart was re-elec ed President, and Me sra Thomas Law and Charles Morrison Vice-Presidents. M-1). S. hiewarc was appointed Tr-si-sor r, Mr R. M’Naughtou Secretary; Captain Clark, Secre ary at Port Chalme s ; and toe following a Committee : Georg Munro, .lobn MT.a'-en, Alexander Gilmour. ndrew Davidson, Keith R.msay, ihos.
