Auckland, March 9. There was a singular case of bigaravinthe Police (Joint to day. William Kelly was charged with many leg Emily Corrigan, his former wfe being alive. The defence was that the first wife, Matilda Jones, had a husband living when the marriage was performed at Taranaki, wh r ch therefore would be invalid Her husband, it is stated, is believed to be new at Patea, and hia name is Andrew Gattemian. The case was adjourned to asce;tain the truth of this statement.

Total quantity of land under crop 650,7592 acres. Last year’s grain remaining on hand, 8,054} bushels; wheat, 61,246 bushels ; oats, 5,415 bushels. The Senate of the New Zealand University have deaided to appoint a registrar and secretary at a salaiy of L4OO per year. Applications are to be invited in all Provinces. They also resolved to ask the Government to incur no delay in applying for royal charter, in order that an examination for the B.A. degree may be held next May, and another in November; and that the anneal examination of under graduates be held between October and December 31 in any year. A large number of resolutions were passed for regulating the various examinations. Peter Seton Hay and Alexander Longbrey were admit f ed 1o the B.A. degree’ A motion by the Vica-ChanceUor. “ that provision ought to be made for the admission of Bacheors of Law to a degree in the University,” was postponed for considers tin.
