Mr S. Bennett, agent for the English Eleven who contemplate visiting the Colonies, has writ nto Auckland, asking what inducement cricketers there o.n offer for a New Zealand visit. A meeting is to be held to consider the matter.
Hokitika, March 9, An assay has been received from the University cf Melbourne of five boxes of silver and lead found on Mount Bangitoto, thirty miles from here. r ! he a'say is as follows No. 1 gave 21 jer cent of lead, with 735 ounces troy of s Iver to the ton; No. 2 gave 31 per cent, of lead, with 302 ounces of silver per ton; No. 3 gave 10 per cent, of lesd. There is great excitement in town over the discovery. The prospectors have not got through the vein. The Land Office has beeu lushed with app’ications for leases adjoining the prospectors’land, and 6,000 acres have been applied for in separate blocks of 200 and 300 acres each.

Three more railway officials have been dismissed in consequence of what transpired during the recent inquiry. At th> meeting of the Senate of the New University yesterday the tepoit of the Bttserves Committee, as telegraphed, was appioved. The following report was read from tine committee appointed to conside- the failure odf the undergraduates to pass the examination of 1875: —“Your committee repoit: (1.) That by regulation 20, clause. 2 (Ist. calendar,. 1875) 8i« students are requ red to pass a University examination each year, but as the regulation b«s been misunderstood, the committee recommend. that. no additional term be required from students who fulfilled their term by passing tire yearly college examination. (3.) that notification be made to certain of the students who were gazetted on August sth, 1875, as having failed to pass th< University examination, and did toot intend to present themselves for examination in any other capacity than as candlla es for scholarships. (3) That it's advisable that in future the. names of candidate s who fail to pass be not published.-” The report was adopted.
