SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

Still another Cup horse has come to grief, it having been made public last evening that Mr P. Campbell’s colt Tattler had gone amiss a few days ago. The information received appears to be reliable, and. he was soon driven from 6 to 1 in the betting to a knocking- out price. Tattler is byßavensworth out of Deception, and is therefore half brother to Traitor. At a meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club held last night it was resolved to close the racecourse forthwith, and to re-open it again for trial gallops from the 16th to 19th inclusive, also to disqualify for the meeting any horse-trainer or jockey using the course or jumping the hurdles except upon the above, dates. Sub committees were appointed to canvass the town for subscriptions, and it is hoped that the public will be sufficiently alive to their own interests to respond liberally. The Balclutha Races have been fixed for April 11 and 12, arid those at Tokomairiro for April 4 and 6. The programme issued, by the latter club includes ' bn the first day a Maiden Plate of 20 sovs, a Handicap Trotting Race of 20 sovs., the Club Handicap, of 60 sovs., and a Flying Handicap, of 30 sovs.; and on the second day, a Publicans’ Handicap, of 35 sovs., Novel Handicap, of 40 sovs., and Members’ Handicap of 50 sovs. The Novel Race is substituted for the Hurdle Race of previous programmes.
