Snt, As the report published in your paper of the inquest held on the fire at Hillgrove. Moeraki, may tend if uncontradicted to mislead many, and as you have not published the evidence, allow me to state-First, that I was not m the house for two hours before the fire, being occupied in the schoolhouse wJth the children; second, that I did not see the fire until the alarm had already been given ; third, that I had no pleasure in reading about fires, i “J? n the contrary, an extreme dread of fire. . urther remarks I need not now make, as the jury have not yet found that the fire was other than accidental— l am, etc., r, ~ , S.
