DROWNED.
This morning when the . chief mate of the baroue 'Prospector, now lying at Port Chalmers, ( Mr, Winslade ) called the ship’s company' to woric, his" attention was dra tutoa man’s coat lying on the forecastle head, together with certain'signs that/some person had been vomiting. On mustering the men he found an ordinary seaman named Join Cowig absent, and hearing, that the man h;d bean drinking to excess the previous evening, he procured dra?s and, after some hours d»ag-, ging bet ween the vessel and the pier, succeeded n i ecovering the, body close to the low of the vessel. The deceased was a native of London, and about twenty-one years of ace. The body was conveyed to the morgue* and there awaits a - inquests.
