Hokitika, February 18. The ' Times' on Hoos's let er re Jackson's Bay says:—" Hitherto, notwithstanding abundant baseless talk, influenced much more by commercial or politic d jealousies than by instincts of humanity, not a.single word of complaint has been communicated to the local Pi ess either by persons in Hokitika or Jackson's Bay. The Press neither furnished, nor is able to discover, a single fact in conniption with the settlement to. justify any such sweeping charge- as -that it iB a scandal. •• It hopes the author of the statement^and the seoiet custodian of "nice things," will have an opportunity of proving and divulging ai to this and the presumably bond fide letter. It hbr'es facility will De afforded for a thorough investigation of every individual complaint, a"d'tha-, the Goverr-men agent, and the rest of the agent* at Jackson's Bay will insiat upon it.' It describes the con elusion of Hoos's letter a3 conveying a gross and fake impression by saying Mr Bonar provides oommumcation and nec-ssarits. Mr Bonar has no property interest in the steamer, and supplies are obtained from others intheord.nary way of tra«ie. The only substantial complaint made is as to the high cost of provisions.
