: The annual meetinsr of this body was held last night, Mr J. S. Webb (the retiring president) occupying the chair, !Frbm the report read. by the Secretary (Capt. At these meetings [fifteen papers have been read by twelve different lauthors, all residents in the four of 'whom are contributors for the first, time.... Of, these ; papers, four-relate 'to' two to Geology, two to Physics, aud seven to misoellaneons subjects. Since the last annual meeting, sirty-seyen 'new members have joined us, whue one lias 'died, and, five have, resigned: thus bringing 'our number up to members. One member 'has become a life-member by the payment of ten guineas, whiohias been-tempozarilfinvested in < the Oovernmont Savings Bank. The advantage, '[ both to. the Institute and members themselves. < of life membership are obvious, and the 7 Council > hope that before another year is over there will ¥e a sufficient number of life members to enable their • subscriptions to be invested more profitably than in ' the Savings Bank. • The following scientific periodicals are now taken in:—Nature, American Naturalist, Popular Scienoe Review, Philosophical ! Magazine, Quarterly Journal - of Mioroaoopical I Science, Monthly Microscopical Journal, Journal | '■ de Zoologie, Ibis, Transactions of the Bntomologi- j cal Society, Entomologists' - Monthly Magazine.!
