DEPUTATIONS.
This morning Messrs Barrowman and Nanmann, Councillor*'of nSoulhDuhedin. waited upon the Superintendent. Their'object was explained by - sr MtßAbbowman, who stated that there waa> family in the municipality of which the mother and infant child weie inflicted with scarlet fever-and were now in -the Hospital. -The father, who was. an old. pensipner, was tipcountry ju quest of employment, and as. the family had no means of subsistence the deputation wished to know what his Honor, as chair 1 - mari of the Central Board of- Health, could do.
His Honor:. I; cannot,do anything as chairman*, The Boa-d ha?; no funds. .Therepis power to rate thV distnct if necessary for'the carrying out of the purposes of the Act. Mr Babbowman : 'Being a recently-created municipality we have-no funds. .We think ilt the'greater hardship as the ■ family ha? only recently removed to the district from Caver- = : *' : •■•ir'! His Honob pointed out that the Act gave the Governor power to place at the disposal of the' Central Board of Health any sum out ef the consolidated fond,, such Bum to be paid into the public account when recovered rfrom the local board. The Act then went on tosay how the inorify. should be raised by rating the district. <:• •'.. , . Mr Babrowman: We think the fever ; has arisen from the manure depot.:.",.-.; .. :- His Honor : You will have to see what you can do ihthe way of getting Conlribationßfrom the benevolent.
