There were eleven entries. Railway Stakes, of 30 boys. Three-quarters of a mile. ’ Weight for age.. 1 ■ Mr D, O’Brien’s Fishhook, 3yrs ... . ... 1 Hercules, Whitefoot, Boro, Waxworks, Wanganui, Never Miss, and Zero also entered. Hawke’s Bay Stakes, of 60 sovs, added to a sweep of 4 sovs, each Two miles. Weight for age. Mr M'lvor’s Hercules, 4yrs ... ... ... 1 The other entries were Fishhook, Premier, Toi, Moa, Maori Weed, and Whitefoot. Selling Race, of 30 sovs. One mile and aquarter. Weight for age. Percival’s b g Saunterer, aged, lOst 81b ... ... ... ... 3 Middy Ashore, The Arrow, Black Monitor, Mount, and also ran. The Arrow stuck up to hia head in a ditch and had to be dug out. The betting was in favor of Perfume, Izaak Walton, and Kingfisher; 5 to 1 being laid against anything else. Mr Walters declared to win with the colt. Perfume led till entering the straight, when Kingfisher had to go up alongside to shepherd him while Izaak W alton was brought up on the outside. An exciting race ensued between the three, Perfume occasionally having a little the best of it; but after a gallant struggle the mare had to be content with being a good third. The colt led at the start, but after going three-quarters of a mile bolted off the course. Eclipse then •on ?P running. Skylark second, The Belle third ; but the colt was brought on to the course again, and was overhauling the field in fine style, when he once more took to the furze.
