Saturday, January 29. (Before V.' Pyke, and H. Bastings, Esq.,

Drunkenness.—Maria Fairbank was fined 20s, or seven days’, for this offence. ; The Oyster Question. - Robert Bain, detective. was charged by Samuel Crafts, fishmonger, with having in bis possesion on the 22nd inst., unlawfully and knowingly, certain deep sea oysters wi hm the period piombitid by law abd not being oysters within the meaning of the Oyster Fisheries’Act of 1866; contrary to the provisions' of the said Act.-—Mr Aldridge, who appeared for the prosecutor, snd the provisions <<f the Act extend over the months of November. December, January, February, and March. This cnarge had arisen out of a cane heard in this Court a few days ago, but thErosecutinn did not wish for a heavy penalty to e iuflic’ ed ; All they desired was that a nominal fine should be imposed, to show that accused had committed a br ach of a wry good law. — Sub-Inspector Mallard said accused did not de y the facts alleged.—Mr Pyke said he had thought over the char e sin-e the previous case had come on, and. he w-*s of the opinion that it must be dismissed.—Sub-losuector Ma lard applied for costs, saying the Government had been put to a g eat deal of trouble on a vex iatious and trivial charge.—The charge was dis-U)i.-sedj without costs. , , i: , ,
