GRAPPLING FOR THE CABLE.
Up to noon of yesterday the Luna had been unsuccessful in her attempt again to hook the cable after the mishap on Monday. Another grapnell was bent and dragging rtsu necl, but the violent jerking aud tugging soon showed a rocky bottom—the first of any great extent encountered. After dragging for some time, and there being no sign of the cable, the grapnell was hauled up, A chart has been sent to Dr Lemon showing the cable course as taken by Captain Kennedy at the time it was laib This will doubtless be of great value to the present undertaking. At two this (Wednesday) morning another trial was made, but having reached the place where they had hooked the cable on Monday they found there was still too much Rea foi> their operations. The Luna is now (noon) at anchor in Island Bay, awaiting a change of weather to resume operations.
