and Sydney trade, is capable of carrying 1,500 tons of cargo, to steam twelve knots, and possesses splendid passenger accommodation. During December the two dredges employed by the Harbor Board lifted 10,370 cubic yards at a cost of L 472. In his report to the Board yesterday, Inspector Stephens made reference to the following matters: —“ During the last month there has not been much advancement made on the Rattray street wharf contract, but as a shipment of piles and timber has arrived, I am given to understand that there will bo no further delay from want of material. —Messrs Kincaid and M'Quceu have a large quantity of plates purchased and prepared for the new dredge.—The dredge New lira has now been at work since early in June, and as the engines, boiler, and bucket gear all require some alteration, it will be necessary, during the present month, to lay her up for her periodical overhaul, which may occupy about eight days. At the same time I would have the Peninsula docked for painting, and the now cylinder which is cast put on board of her. It will also be necessary to put the Timaru bank lightship on the slip for repairs. While they are being effected a lighter could take her place for a few days.”
