OAMARU v. DUNEDIN. The match between these Clubs was played on Monday in the presence of a small sprinkling of spectators. The Oamaru captain having won the toss sent his opponents to the wickets, and Meares and Rose were the first to make their appearance. The former having received the strike played a fine maiden over from Millington. Maude bowled from the southern end, and off his first over a single wjws scored. Both bowlers were particularly well on the spot, and the batsmen playing very carefully singles were the order of the day. When 18 had been scored Rose skied one to leg, and was well caught by Davidson, after scoring 9. Lathbury was the incomer, and when a few more had been added Meares was bowled by Millington for a useful and carefully got 11. Collinson was next, but soon retired to a trimmer from Millington, and Lathbury shortly after fell a victim to the same bowler, who was bowling splendidly. Things looked uncomfortable for Dunedin, but Lambert and Fulton got together and soon began to put a different aspect on the face of affairs, and the score mounted rapidly till the latter was foolishly run out When he had scored 21 in fine style. Lambert made 28, but his was not a first-class innings, as ho. skied many balls that should have been driven along the carpet. The innings closed for a total of 92. The Oamaru men soon appeared at the wickets to the bowling of Lambert and Lathbury, Meares, after a long absence, keeping wicket. The first three wickets fell rapidly for 17, and then an adjournment for lunch was made. After lunch, Millington was foolishly run out. The only noticeable feature of the innings was Nichols, who played freely and well for 27. The innings closed for a total of 71, or 21 behind the Dunedin score. In the second innings of Dunedin, the visitors were treated to a considerable amount of leather hunting by Lathbury, Rose, and Macfarlan. When the stumps were drawn, both teams adjourned to the Southern Hotel, where the healths of the “Visitors” and “ Dunedin Eleven ” were drunk in “fizz.” A very enjoyable day was spent over the match, and the Oamaru men stated they expected on the occasion of the return match on their own ground to be able to give a better account of themselves.
