Third Day.
There were about 700 persons on the ground yesterday. The gate money, including the price paid for the booths, realised was L 29 odd, which will be handed over to the Benevolent Institution. The Society themselves bear the expense of tickettakers, etc. It was at first intended to have had the finish of the wrestling match, with some other sports to fill out the afternoon, on Saturday, but it was afterwards fieorned that neither Fothergill nor gßobcrtsou could; stay in town till then. The wrestling was resumed at about half-past 3 p.m. To save time, the men were put together, and Bobertson almost immediately scored a fall. This made one throw to each competitor, and the struggle for the deeding fall i hen commenced. Then it was decided not to put the men together, as it was believed that by so doing, Bobertson being the longer backed, hod tho advantage. Later on, if he had been a little lighter, he would certainly have been thrown by Fothergill. As it was he nearly went down, Fothergill having swung him oil his feet, but was not able to completely throw him with a “ hip." Again Fothergill tried to buttook his op. ponent, but tmsuccessfully, Bobertson pulling himself back by main strength. This was the best bit of play shown during the contest. After another holf-le jr’s play, as it was found that the match could not bo decided without ‘ a protracted contest, and as neither man seemed willing to make another day of it, it was agreed to give each man LlO, and to retain the Champion Belt. After tho judges’ decision was made known Bobertson was carried round the ring on the shoulders of some half-dozen of his admirers. The trophy will be again open for com. petition by all and sundry on some future day, probably on Easter Monday, when,! if it can be arranged, tho Society intend holding a special gathering on their new grounds at Kensington, which are rapidly being got into order. There will be provided a running rink twenty-five yards wide and a quaiter of a mile in diameter, and it is not improbable that some future day will see the inauguration of trotting matches at Kensington. The judges decided the gymnastics as follows Lochhead, 1; Booth, 2 ; Kerr, 3. Mr J. Long also computed, but not having entered he was disqualified. Mr Lochhead’s special prize of a silver medal for horizontal bar perfonnpnces f$U to Booth.
