TRAMWAYS FOR THE CITY.
The Works Committee of the City Connell reported yesterday on the question of tram* ways as follows : That teuders bo called for a single line of tramway from the Botanical Gardens to Princes street south, along the main line of traffic, but by way of Albany street instead of Frederick street, teuders to be sent in up to 22nd February next. Tenderers to state term of years and conditions they would require. Fare not to exceed 2d per mile, and no faro of any shorter distance than a mile to be less than 2d, children under twelve years half price, in Concession not to exceed seven years, and Council to have power to buy up rolling stock imd plant at end of seven years ; the promoters to have no claim for good will, and no power to assign the contract without consent of Council.
In the course of the short discussion that took place Or. Reeves gave expression to the opinions that t* ie (Jorp (ration itself should construct trairiwa s, and that there should be a uniform taiiff of charges, no matter what the distance might he. Quite opposite views were expressed by Cr. Isaac. The matter is to be fully considered at a spenal meeting.
