Tho nomination for the first Mayor of South Dunedin took place nt the ITorbury Schoolhouse at noon to-day, iu the presence of about twenty electors.

Mr John Babbowman proposed Mr Nicholas Maloney, of the Ocean View Hotel. Ho explained that it was only at the urgent solicitation of the committee, who had taken so active a part in forming the municipality, that he had consented to stand for the mayoralty; and the first thing they would have to see was that the money was wi-ely and judiciously expended. Ho thanked the people for electing him without t' e trouble of a contest, and said he was sure that although they were so few present, they represented the (sentiments of ninety out of every hundn d. In selecting their Council he hoped the electors would throw aside all par y feeling, and elect the men who would work for the municipality. He was sure that if a good Council could lie got, the municipality would rank second only to Dunedin, for nouo had been started uuder better aus rices.
