DROWNED.
A farm laborer named Robert Fairley, in the employ of Mr Roland Jeffrey, settler, Flag Swamp, was accidently drowned whilst bathing in the Flag wamp Creek, on ;-unday, the 12th inat. Fairley and another farm hand named M'luuis left Mr Jeffrey's house at about 9 a m. on Sunday morning to bathe in the creek about 400 yards from the house. M'lunis states that after Fairley had been a few minutes in ftie water, he (M'lnnis) perceived that Fairley was suffering in some way. M'lnnis called "Come out, Bob " to which the then apparently drowning man paid no attention. M'luni» ran into the water up to bis neck and threw Fab ley a towel, which the latter made no endeavors to catch, but disappeared almost immediately. M'lnnis gave the alarm instantaneously, but an hour and a-half elapsed before the body was recovered. The hole where deceased was found is about 12ft deep and 20ffc in circumference. Fairley arrived in the Colony about two months ago by the ship Auckland, and had only been in the district about three weeks —• Palmerston Herald.'
