OTAGO RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

FIRST DAY, Owing to the large number of competitors who had entered for the second match, only two stages of this match could be fired yesterday. At the 200 yds range, the highest scores were made by Lieut. M'Kenzie, Waik., who registered five buils’eyes ; and Lieut. Wilson, P.C.N.8.; l/’orporal Richardson, N.D,; Sergt. I’resedor, No. 1 ; and Volunteer Nightingale. No. 1, all with 19 out of a possible 209. At 400 yds, Lieut. Wilson. P.C.N.B. ; Lieut, Christie, E.T, ; Vol. T. Hutchison, N.H. ; Gun. Curie, Art.,; and Vol. Seaton, Portohello, all with 19. At the close of this range firing wa« delayed till the SECOND DAY. Second Match: 200. 400, 500, and 600 yards ; five shots at each range ; Wimbledon targets; any position.—First prize, a silver cu t o, presented by his Worship the Mayor ; second do., aneroid and clock, presented by Mr G. F. Reid ; third do., gold maltese cross, presented by Mr Thos. Dodson; fourth, fifth, and s xth do., trophies.

Tlie advantage of yesterday’s exceedingly fine weather was fully counterbalanced by <the stormy weather of to-day. The morning squad, who tired at five o’clock, had to contend with squally winds, while for t.he second squad—from nine to twelve—nothing but piercing rain was experienced ; indeed the competitors had to fire in top-coats, or sheltered by umbrellas Notwithstanding these drawbacks some good firing was made, and (53 out of a possible 89 in such weather is a very respectable total, For both squads the weather at the last range was very changeable, which accounts for the poor scores made at COO yards. In the 500 yards range the top scores were mado by Lieutenant Wilson, Yol, Clark (Bruce), Vol. Mills, t*,V,R., and Lieut. Christie, 8.T., all with 18. At 600 yards, Vol. Fre laricjf, N-D., and Yol, Duthie, No. 1, each made 17. Lieut. Wilson, by his steady shooting, has again proved himself to be a really crack shot, ihe scoring throughout the two days i« the be,«t >ye have yet had to chronicle by the Utago men.
