COST OF PROVINCIAL COUNCILS.
To the Editor. Sib,— Your morningcontemporarythe ‘Guar clian,’ flounders hard to try and show that Mr Wacandrew was wrong in stating that L 32,000 was about the annual cost of Provincial Counoils. Mr Sessions’s return, published a few •days ago, gave the actual expenditure shown Ry the published public accounts, which proved that Mr Macandrew was right in his statement. The ‘ Guardian ’ replies we give the sums “ voted,” and therefore we are right. Like the miserable quibbling so characteristic of it. Do;'tj the ‘ Guardian ’ pretend not to know that the cost of a thing is what is paid for it, not what it may have been estimated before being purchased '! I respect au opponent who honestly advocafes the cause he has espoused, but perish the miserable drivellers who have not the candor to do their antagonists justice, but who at heart, knowing the weakness of their own case, have to resort to misrepresentation and quibbling, \nth the vain hope of gulling the intelligence of the people,—l am, &c., Mentor.
