STRANDING OF THE S.S. TAIAROA.
Information was received by the Harbo officials at Port Chalmers this morning from Captain ihomson, harbor-master at the Bluff that the new s.s. T.iiaroa, from Glasgow’ belonging |o the Albion Shipping Company! was ashore at U-g Isleud. Since then we P have Agency^— 6 fo ovvmg tel egrams from the Press Bluff, December 10, 10.25 a m. A steamer is on shore close to Dog Island. She was signalled as the Taiaroa from Glasgow for Utago, and belongs to the Union hteam Company. The steamer Express has gone out to ascertain the position of the vessel. She is of about 400 tons, Ta lT a has got off b y the Bluff* 1 h ° r 1& t0W ’ auii ia now makin g for , Taiaroa, s.s., from Glasgow for Otago, passed the Bluff at 7 a.m. this morning, and as stranded on the Old Man Rocks, a quarter ot a mile to the north-west of Dog Island, at 8 a.m. The captain died of paralysis off Igoa Bay on the 3rd of November, The vessel is now lying on the beach, with water in each compartment. The actual damage is not but it is thought to be about mid-

Her stranding resulted troiu want of knowledge of this coast on the part of the mate, who has had charge since the captain’s death. Messrs Cargill, Gibbs, and Co. kindly placed the tollowmg telegram at our disposal“ The iaiaroa is now in harbor. She is bilged and making a deal of water. We do not know tho extent of the damage until low water. The vessel is now on the beach. She called at Cape Town and Hobart Town on the passage out.” 1
We understand that tho Union Company do not take delivery of the vessel until she arrives u Chalmers, and that, she is insured at Home, but Messts Cargill and Co. have no positive information as to the amount.
