ELECTORAL NOTES.

The Dunedin correspondent of the .‘Bruce Herald’ telegraphs to that journal fhat Sir John Richardson positively declines to contest Dunedin. The Hon, E. Richardson will address tho electors of Christchurch on "Wednesday next. Mr Rolleston will address the electors of Avon on the same day, and Mr Reeves will address the electors of Selwyn on Thursday next. There is a strong desire that Mr. John Sheehan should stand for the East Coast. It is believed Poverty Bay would see it to be to its interest to support him in preference to a purely local candidate, whose interest would be centred in tho Bay of Plenty. Mr J. T, Fisher, M. 8.0., a candidate for the Heathcote district, addressed the electors last night, and declared in favor of a modification of Provincial institutions. He said rather than agree to total abolition he would vote for the financial separation of the two Islands. A vote of confidence in him was passed. A Grahams town telegram states that a requ sition to Sir George Grey will probably be pr* seated to-morrow. The latest rumor is that he will accept and take Mr Speight, the G.W, Hood Tern. Jar for the North Island, under hiwing. Sir George received numerous depurations to-day. He has consented to address the inhabitants of the Thames on Saturday night. Our Waikouaiti correspondent telegrajihs : “Mr George Mdi.ean, M.H.R., addressed a large meeting of (he electors at Kilmog last night; Mr T. Pryda in the chair. M r M‘Lean entered fully into an explanation of his action during the late session of the Assembly, and at the teim’nation of his speech was severely catechised on leading questions by those present, .a unanimous vote of confidence in him was carried. Mr M‘Lean addresses the electors at Waikouaiti this evening.”
