Michael M'Namara and William Ham wore each fined 5s. —Inspector Mallard stated rbat groat credit was due to a cabman named Huntley, who, when requested by Ham (who had a huge sum of money in his pocket) to diive him to a house of ill-fame, on finding that he was helplessly diunk, drove him to the police-station.—Richard Dickson, alias .Jackson, was fined 10s, or twenty-four hours’ impmonmeut. Sly Grog Celling. Edward Perry was changed with Selling on 'November 24 sixpence worth of beer, without a license so to do. O . the night in question, Revenue-Constable Munay visited dtfeudant’a house (forme;ly known ns the Alhambra Motel), at the corner of Clark and Mackggau streets, and purchased s’xpennyworih of beer, which w<p put in a bottle. Ua going outside he drank the beer. Mr Birch : Is Mr Perry carrying on a system of sly-grog selling? Inspector Mallard ; All I can say is this—Mr Perry is down on the list of sly grog selling housm in the City amongst the others. Defendant was fined 1.10 and costs. —Eleanor Collins was charged with selling, at Green Wand, on Novr tuber 23 1m 6d worth of whiskey, with ut a license. RevenueConstables Thornl y and Ai unity vidted defendant’s house (formerly known as the Volunteer Ho'el, but now evlled die Volunteer Club) on the day in question, and with a waggoner were each served with a glass of whisky by the si rvant-gijl, for which payment was made.’ Defendant was fined LlO and costs. —It, W. Shepherd was charged with selling, cu November 22, sixpenny-woith of beer in an unlicensed house formerly known as the Royal f xchange Hotel, Walker street. Mr Aldridge d feuded. Both revenue-officers swore to being served by defendant, himsvlf with a pannikin of beer, for which th-y mid. Defendant.'enied having seen either of tue men before. He was fined ! .10 and costs. Forgery —Thomas Eangiands was charged with intent to for. e an order for the payment of 1.10 os 91, on or about November 10 Daniel jVPKenzie, of the firm of ML he.sou ami MKenzie, saw-millers, Gatlin’s River, said that piisoner was employed by the firm for three or four months. He was discharged ah ut the midulo of September, and was paid by cheque the amount that uas due him. Witness had seen nothing of him since then till now. The signature to the cheque produced, purporting to be drawn by the firm in favor of Thomas Langlanda on the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, for the sum of 1.10 5.; 9d, v.as a forgery. Having work d f ere and knowing such a firm, and believing that the cheque was genuine, witness advanced him 10s, and paid for some drinks, Priso. er promised witness that if he would gr-t the cheque cashed ho would give him five shillings for is trouble. Cowie, ledger-keeper in the Bank of Now Zealand, Dunedin, said that ho rccogid-ed the cheque now pro dueud as having been handed m him by the last w.tries.; about the llth November last.
