RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Wednesday, November 24. (Before J. Bathgate, Esq., E. M.) Hovg and Hutton v. Soutcr. —Claim of L 32 10s tkl for a quarter-cask of whisky supplied. —Judgment was given for plaintiff, with coats. Banks, Barron, and Co. v. Tait.—Claim of L.‘l 2s 8d for groceries supplied, —Judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs. Bussell v. Hobcraft. —This was a , augment summons to enable the defendant to show cause why he should not pay the amount of a previous verdict. —Plaintiff stated that defendant bad taken a cabin passage to Christchurch to attend the last race meeting, but defendant said the money for the passage was advanced by one of his relations. —The case was adjourned fora week to enable defendant to prove
this statement, Key and Hewitt v. Barron.— Claim of L 97 6s, the balance of an account for the building of a house at Selkirk. Judgment was now given in this case, previously argued, for L7B 4s, each party to pay his own costs. ‘ Tablet’ Company v. White.—Claim to recover Ll2 for advertising. Judgment by default for plaintiff, with costs. Jack v. Campbell. -Claim of 1.23, the price of a horse. Mr Stoat appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Bathgate for defendant.—Plaintiff’s case whs that defendant sold him a horse, with a guarantee that it was suitable for his work, but on being tried it was found to be a jibber, and was accordingly returned. The money was paid by cheque, and although defendant promised to take the horse back he declined to return tbe money.—Defendant deposed that he gave his guarantee in selling the horse. - -Judg' ment was reserved. '
