Mr M. W. Maskell, Provincial Secretary of Canterbury, will contest the A-hley seat with Mr J. E. jßrown.

Mr H. P. Machin, in a letter to the ‘ Wakatip Mail,’ denies that he intends standing for the Lakes district in the Good Templar or any other interest.

Requisitions are in circulation asking Mr G. Lumsden to stand for Invercargill, and Mr J. P. Joyce, editor of the ‘Southland News,’ to contest the Wallace seat. These have been got up by the Provincialist patty. Mr A. R Guineas is in the field as a candidate for the representation of the Grey Valley m the Legislative Assembly. In announcing the fact, the West Coast Times ’ says “If consummate impudence is the sole characteristic required in a member for the House of Representatives, Mr Guinness is certain to bo placed at the head of the poll.” At limaru last night Mr Bruce addressed the Gladstone electors, and declared himself an Abolitionist to the backbone; that he is in favor of unity of the Colony with a Central Government, and local government by sbire councils. Mr R. R. Turnbull, auctioneer, has consented to stand against Mr Bruce and Mr Teschemaker. S. Moorhouse offers himself as a candidate for one of the Christchurch City seats, and Mr E. J. VVakefield is canvassing the city for himself. Mr E, C. J. Stevens and Mr S. F. Andrews, late M.P.C. xor the city, are also candidates for the Christchurch seats. Mr J. T. Fisher, late M.P.C. , Heathcote, is likely to oppose Sir Craoroft Wilson for that district.
