THE CATTLE BOARD.
To the Editor . Sir,—l observe from your leader on Saturday last that amongst other cries which you lay at the door of PtoviuciaHnni is that of the recent action of the Cattle ‘ '>oa, d in connection with the sheep imported by the Calypso. You are evidently not aware of the fact that the ; attle Hoard is not a Provincial but a Colonial institution, constituted by virtue of an Act o! t,hat (colonial Legislature which you so greatly admire, and that should the Province be abolished to marrow the Cattle Board will re main; in short, the Provincial Government, I find, has nothing whatever to do with that Board, either by way of appointing or con trolling it. If I might be permitted to say so, I think it is much to be regretted that yi>ur able pen should now be so incessantly devoted to running down our present form of Government upon assumptions, most of which are as groundless and directly contrary to fact as that which I now point out. In the same article I cannot but sufficiently admite the irony of your reterriug to the ‘Guardian’ as an impartial ori io of the action of the Provincial Government.—! am, &e.,’ Old Identiti Pbovincjamit, Dunedin, November 17.
