A NOTEWORTHY CONGRESS.
Just now (says the ‘ City Press’) the forthceming exhibition at Brussels engages’very earnest attention, for it is to be a congress which next year [will meet in the Belgian capital to consider the questions of public health and the means of preserving life. All necessary appliances for displaying lifesaving and health preserving apparatus of every description, beginning with everything relating to saving life from fire, and going on to those contrivances and inventions which protect from the perils of wreck or drowning on voyages at sea—including lighting of coasts, construction of vessels, and the transport of sick and wounded on shipboard. The third class of exhibits will be of means of preventing accidents in travelling by road or rail; the fourth is devoted to aid the sick and wounded in time of war, the disposal of the dead, and the sanitation of camps and battle-fields ; the fifth class embraces the great subject of hygiene and public health ; and the sixth the scarcely less important one of means of preserving the health and protecting the lives of those engaged in industrial pursuits. The seventh class deals with private and i family health j the eighth with medi-
cine, surgery, and all means of maintaining health and promoting the wellbeing of society—including benefit societies, co-operative movements, infirmaries, convalescent hospitals, and other subjects which demand very careful consideration. The ninth class is the protection of life and health, in connection with agriculture.
