Oamaru, November 13. Great intern Fit is taken in the forthcoming show. There .are already 670 entries, and more are coming in.. It is expected to be the largest show ever held in Otago. The privileges of the field, gates , booths, &c., sold yesterday for L 360. Riverton, November 15. A large meeting was held on Saturday, to take into consideration the unsatisfactory manner in which the public works in the Western District are being proceeded with. A resolution was passed urging on the Government the m jeessity of having the railway contracts push ed on «. xpeditionsly, and the sums vote! for mads left session of the Provincial Council expended ; also to arrange for the immediate fencing in of the railway lines, and for the paymeiat of c •mpeusation to the settlers for lands taken for railways. A denutation was appointed, consisting of Messrs M'Kintosh, and Danie 1, M.P.C.’s, and Dr Hodgkinson, to wait on the Provincial Government and to submit tl ie resolutions passed at the meeting. Several oft the speakers referred in very strong terms to 'the manner in which the contractors for the railways Lad carried out their work, and oth e;rs condemned the Government for the way in which they had allowed their officers to be set. a t defiance by the contract©is. All the speaker s spoke out pretty plainly on the general mismariagement and bungling of public works in the district, some blaming the contractors, and ot hers throwing the whole blame on the Government,
