Phcebo, with cargo and passengers for the Northern ports, sailed this afternoon. On in id after to-morrow the Chamber of Commerce will receive telegrams notifying the movements of all steamers arriving at and sailing from the following ports for Port Chalmers .—Auckland, CnMiunga, Nelson, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Hokitika, The s.s. Wanganui returned from her usual trip to Lyt telton, via intermediate ports, at 7.30 a.m. yesterday and steamed alongside the ship Timaru to discharge cargo. She left Lyttelton at 3 p.m. on the sth, encountered a strong S.W. to arrival at Akaroa at 9.30 p.m,, and arrived at, Timaru at 9.30 a.m. on the Cth; left again at 7.30 p.m. and arrived as above. By a telegram in the ‘N. O. Times,’ wo learn that the topsail schooner Pelican, Captain I). Hanning, which left Oamaru for the Bluff at. 7 a.m. on Wednesday last, arrived at her destination at 11 o’clock the same night, thus doing the distance in sixteen hours, being the smartest run ever accomplished on the coast. The Otago called in at Oamaru on Thursday, with the intention of shipping grain. Finding a heavy N.E. sea running Captain Calder did not anchor, | hut passed on to Kakanui, where the vessel shipped 1,000 bags of oats for the Melbourne market. Captain Calder expressed himself much pleased at the quick despatch he received at Kakanui. The barque Bobycito, with a full cargo of eoul from Newcastle, was towed up this morning by the tug Geelong. She left Newcastle on the 20th nit.; had light winds from the S.S.E. to S.S.W., until making the S,W. Capo on the morning of the sth ; passed the Solanders next day ; had N.W. winds through the Strait, which was cleared on-Satur-day evening; had variable winds along the Coast until 3 this morning, when she got a S.W. wind to arrival, THE S.S, WELLINGTON. The N.Z.S.S. Company’s s.s. Wellington, with the Dunedin portion of the San Francisco mails, arrived alongside the railway pier at 4.49 this morning. Her mails were immediately lauded and conveyed to Dunedin by the eleven train. The Wellington left Auckland on the 28th nit., called at-Poverty Bay and ’ Napier, and arrived at Wellington on the 31st, at which port she was taken on the patent slip and thoroughly scraped, denned, and recoat cd with Peacock’s patent composition; also received a fonr-Wadod propeller, and remained then- umfl the arrival of

the 3.5, Taranaki with the southern part of the mail. The ladies’ cabin has also been enlarged, aud can now accommodate sixteen. New decks have been laid down both fore and aft. The comfort of poor Jack Las not been forgotten. Tho forecastle is entirely new, aud other improvements have been effected* New foremast, spars, and rigging have also been fitted. The whole of the improvements have been carried out, under the superintendence of Mr Coffey and Mr Pollock. The whole of the old officers remain, with the exception cf Mr W. J.
