HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.
The opening sportß of the Dunedin High School Athletic Clubweie held on the Nfcrth Dunedin .Recreation Ground this afternoon. The sportß commenced at about 1.30 p.m., at which hour there could not have been more than a hundred persons present. Mr Kiikcaldy acted as handicapper and smarter, and Mr Kohn o.s. time-keeper. The trophies principally consisted of silver cms and medals. At four o'clock there were about 800 persons present. The following are the lvbult* of the various events:— i
Throwing THE kicket BALL.—Open to boys of any —Crawshaw, 1; Shaud, 2 ; J. I nil, 3. The distance was not. taken. 100 yds Handicap Flat Race (boys under thirteen).—Gow, 1; Branmgan|2; Morris (II), 3. There were twenty-6ve entries for this event. ' '
220 yds Handicap Flat V- ace (boys over thirteen).— entered for thi:,, Tace, whcih raused a great <ied of interest, amongst the present Kchool pupils. It was won by Fiuch (scratch), M'Leod (syds) being seoond, and J. Reid (scr.iich) third. Time, 3L£.ecs. Half-jams Handicap Race (Boys under thirteen). Seven competed for this event, which enuld not be regarded a& anything bu'. a farce., the walkiug in the last two lapi beinir very qn< sti »mhle It resulted thus :— ■> Br.n.nigau (11) 1 ; Ni-hols, 2; Murray. 3. A pnifi st. was eyn red a„aui:<t the first prizetaker. Time, 4'niu. f>o«ec. . 100 Yds. Handicap Flat Race —This was the principal event <f the day. There were twe vs entries, but only < started. It was won e+sily by Tres-e'er (ByH-), M'Leaa (•?y's) beiting F. (scratch) for second place after a hard struggle. Tinu—lo£j«.cb. Burning Hop, step, and Jump (b<>yß over thirteen) -Finoh, ; ; M'Dnndd 2. The di«tiinc was not measured. Handicap Hurdle J-ace. Only A. Hunter (4yds) ana A Taine (scratch) started, Th« race promised to result m a dead heat, but at the last hurdle Hunter stumbled bringing a little boy lc-ning against it to grief, Taine then came in as hj liked. ' Throwing the Cricket Ba&l R Park, 1; S. Lambert. 2. Lambert afterwards beat Parkfi'K throw by three y ids. Milh Handicap Walking kace (*oys over thirteen).—A. i<eid, 1; M'Ltod, 2; Jno. Reid, 3. A well-oontested raee. Time, 9uiin. 29*ec. Quarter-Mile Handicap.—F. Smith, 1; A.: Taine. 2; A. Hunter, 3. Time, 62£secs. Won easily.
