CITY POLICE COURT.
Friday, October 29. (Before H. S. Fish, Esq., and T. Birch, Esq., J.P.’s.) Drunkenness.—Robert Cowal and John Quick were each fined in the minimum penalty of ss, Vagrancy.—James Kcruch was charged with having no lawful means of support.—Detective Bain stated that prisoner was a mendicant. He would not work but went to respectable houses and begged.—Accused promised to leave Dunedin if acquitted this time, and the Bench accordingly gave him an opportunity to “ clear out.” A Trespasser.—Alexander M'lvor was charged with being unlawfully on the premises of the Glasgow Pie House without lawful excuse.—The Bench remanded him for medical examination. A Disreputable House.—John Dix, a colored man, was charged with being the occupier of a house situate at Caversham frequented by persona having no lawful means of support. Mr E. Cook defended,—Constable Barry stated the class of people who frequented the house, amongst them prostitutes and others. It had been very disorderly of late.—Prisoner was sentenced to fourteen imprisonment, and informed that if brought up again he would receive the full term—three months.
