RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, October 26. (Before T. A. Hansford, Esp, R.M.) Drunkenness. —John Hyman, a seaman belonging to the barque Enid, for being drunk and carrying a sheath-knife, contrary to the Corporation Bye-laws, was fined ss, or twentyfour i ours’ for the first offence, and discharged for the other. Charles Tonkin, steward to the same vessel, for drunkenness and for destroying a lamp of the value of 2s fid, was fined 5s or twenty four hours’ imprisonment for the first offence, and for the second was ordered to pay the amount of damages. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following cases with costs J. Boulton v. W. Tyson, claim L2l3* Bd, bread supplied ; same y. J. Day, L 9 Us fid, goods supplied, to be paid by weekly instalments of JOs; same v. Wm. Hanson, L 3 6s 2d, goods supplied; same v. C. Spurgeon, Li 7 18s BJ, goods supplied, to be paid by weekly instalments of 10s. W. Hughes v. James Middleton, L 3 4s, for rent.
