THE MACANDREW BANQUET.
Tn the Editor. Sin,—As your paper is the first to be published after the published correspondence between the Mayor and Mr Sibbald, 1 embrace the first opportunity of solemnly declaring that Mr Sibbald acted in direct opposition to the Instructions of the Demonstration Committee in writing his second letter to the Mayor, and as one of the committee I entirely repudiate the sentiments contained in the letter. Cur de. monstration is purely n political one, and I am sorry that Mr Sibbald should have sought to disabuse the Mayor of this opinion. No doubt Mr Sibbald was actuated by pacific intentions in thus trying to conciliate the Mayor, but in doing so he has been much like the ll old man and bis donkey.”—l am, &c , W, Hoorps, Dunedin, October .13.
