Criminal Offence.— William -Gregg wrs charged, on remand, with feloniously committing an indecent assault on one Heien Staines, on the 29>.h ult.— Prisoner was defended by Mr Denuiston, and pleaded not guilty Prosecutrix, who gave her evidence straightforwardly, said that she had been living at Forbury for a month pari., with her sister, Mrs Gregg, Three weeks ago her sister left and witness, two children, pri oner, and a lodger named Hirgins, remai ied in the house. On the night of the 2t'tr. ult accused, learning from witness that sbe was unwell, made her take some hot toddy, which made her viddy, when she went to bed and immediately fell oft’ into a sound sleep. About two hours after she wna awakened by prisoner assaulting her, and after a struggle he got up and went out of the room. -lulme, who examined pro ecntrix a fortnight ago, said he could not say whether such an offence had been committed or prosecutrix as alleged or not. —Prisoner was committed for trial, bail being allowed, himself in LSO, and two sureties of LIOO each.
