THE DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.
A meeting of the Presbytery whb held in the First Church yesterday; piescnt—The Revs. Messrs Blake, Dr Copland, Johnstone, Mackie, M'Naughton, Kussell, Sutherland, Dr Stuart, and Watt (Moderator); also, Mesßra Bowie, Currie, and King, elders.
Dr Stuabt moved and Dr Copland second?*! " That this Presbytery cordially approve of the union of the Northern Church and the Churoh of Otago, on the basis of union given in the report of the Union Committee." The Rev. Mr M'Naughton moved and Mr King seconded an amendment to the effect that the Presbytery do not recommend suck union.
Dr STUART replied, and on the amendment being put onl> the mover and seconder votjed for it; while seven voted for the motion, which was declared carried.
Dr Stuart moved " That the Presbytery overture the Synod to take immediate steiw, in concert with the Assembly of the Presbyterian ( : hurch of New Zealand, with a view to providing Church ordinances for the Presbyterian settlers in the Colony of Fiji." Cn.r. ried, I >r Stuart moved and Dr CorLAND seconded " That this Presbytery, having heard of the death of Commodore Goodcnough, in the pro Becution of bis duty in suppressing the forcible deportation of the Islanders of the Paciffic, record their admiration of his conduct and express their deep Horrow at his death, and direot 'the Clerk to send a copy of this minute to his widow."
A telegram was received from the Rev. M f r Kirkland, of Hokitika, declining the call recently made to him by the West Taieri congre> gation. The Presbytery discussed in private the state of religion in its district.
