CR. CHAPMAN AND THE EXPRESSES.
To tU Editor. K \. y , attenti °n ka« just been drawn to the notice of motion given by Cr.. Chapman re the constmction of a bye-law "to regulate the plying of expresses for hire in the public streets with a view to abating the present nuisance of these vehicles moving slowly through the streets when unemployed." lam well aware that tor some time a feeling has existed in the "Xaa ? f B u me , P e ,°V ]e tbat tho nuisance here alluded to should be in some way stopped, but the question anses-how can thia be done without inconveniencing the public ? I hear the way proposed is to adopt the cab « rinoiple and have a stand where all must remain when unemployed. This plan would not only be a great loss to express owners, but a constant inconvenience to the public. M any firms employ an express ten to fifteen times pi . r day, and just fancy having to send that number of times to the standi! Besides.jjnot uufrequently parcels have to be sent away in such a hurry to catch a tram or steamer that there would be no time to send to the stand. Let would be such as Mr Chapman pause ere they interfere with what everyone in trade must feel to be one ot the greatest conveniences of the town—namely the continual passing back and forw, rofveWe 3 ready ? ? r trie conveyance ot tated ere anything decisive is done.-I am, n n . , Andrew Kusskx.
