CABS AT THE PORT.
To the Editor. Siß.—lf there is one thing more than another that strikes the visitor to Port Chalmers, it is the all-absorbing interest in things about the jetty. Local industries outside n very short radius from that centre me not rhought of. lor instance, the cab interest is all but left to take care of itself. It is astonishing what a population has of late spread all along the I eninsula, even to its remote end. and yet no ommbus has ns yet been attempted along the beautiful road which, traverses its entire length, ho that people have to trudge along on foot just ns if cabs were unknown, and larnilies who would settle down at various points are discouraged to go so far beyond easy access of train and boat. Several Dunedin families resident there have to do long journeys ®n foot who would not grudge 6d for the ’bus. and others would go down and spend the summer at the “ salt water,” wite it not for the inconvenience I speak of.
