WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held te-day ; present—the Chief Commissioner, Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Clark, and Strode.

Mr. E. P. Kenyon, on behalf of Mr Henry Schluter, applied to purchase section 198, block 2, Papakiao district. Banger’s advice to be asked.

Messrs Fitzpatrick and M‘Bride offered to lease five acres at Twenty-five-mile Bush, dhotover, for firewood purposes at a rental of 35s per acre per annum. Refused : timber regulations to be adhered to.

The application of Mr R. Ferguson to purchase an area held by him under an agricultural lease at Manuka Creek was again considered by the boarcl Noted. It was stated that the Government was opposed to the application being granted. Mr F. S. Newmarsh, on behalf of the Naseby Coal Mining Company, applied for a lease for twenty-one years of six acres of land at Kyeburn Peninsula on the Creek. Applicant to forward runholder’s consent.

Mr S. Symonds, pro. secretary to the Arrow District Miners’ Association, submitted the following objections to Keren’s application being granted That the ground is payably auriferous and the key to thousand acres of such land adjoining; that, on the assurance of the Warden that the land should not bo sold, an expensive water-race, largely subsidised by the Government, having been made to work the ground ; also that the land h-d always been part of a mining reserve. The Chief Commissioner to inform the secretary that the Board will not sell the land if the facts be as stated ; in the meantime the matter has been referred to the District Land Officer.

_ Mr James Anderson’s application to have his lease ©f section 115, block 5, Otepopo district, extended for ten or fifteen years, was referred to the Ranger for report. Messrs Thomas C. Low and Son’s application for compensation at the rate of 4s per acre for 900 acres of land taken off their run (327) was referred to the Government.

Mr J. H. Reid’s application to have his sawmill area on block 11, Clarendon district, readjusted so as to embrace parts of, Messrs Barrett and Payne’s forfeited application and eleven acres excluded from his first application, was granted. Mr Connell, for Mr Robert Robson, applied for a lease of Totara Island for seven years for grazing purposes. To be sold by auction as land of special value, at the upset price of L 5 per acre, under clause 81, with the consent of the Superintendent.
