The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods cleared for consumption this day was L4fi4 4s sd.
Business during the week has been very quiet, camera being unable to obtain freights, although they offer the inducement of low cartage. Hennessy’s case brandy continues in short supply, and has been sold, to arrive, at 33s fid; other brands are in good supply. There is no alteration in tobaccoes; prices continue high. Candles are in short supply, and fetch IOJd to IOJd. Tea has not been dealt in to any extent, put chases limited to supply of immediate wants. Stocks of superior teas are light, and there is some inquiry for this quality. New season’s teas, via Melbourne, are to hand, and some transactions have taken place, prices withheld. Dried fruits ore still in short supply. Sultanas command B}d to 9d; currants, sd; elemes, 7d. THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports that business in the labor market is still very quiet, but a decided re-action will soon take place, with the long days and spring weather. Wages Day-labor Bs, ‘9s, and 10s per day; cooks, grooms, barmen, &c., 20s to ,60s per week; sei vant girls, L26to L 52; housekeepers, L 45 to L 52; ploughmen and shepherds, L 55 to L7O ; couples, L 75 to H00; carpenters, masons, and bricklayers, 10s to 15s per day; bushmeu, 0d to la per cubic feet for logs j tailors, shoemakers, &c., by piece work; boys and girls, 5s to 15s per week; store hands, from 35s to 70s per week.
