A CONTRADICTION.

To the Editor. Sir, —I wish t© contradict a statement which appeared in the ‘Daily Times,’ the other day. It is stated there that biicklayers’ laborers at Port Chalmers have struck work, asking for an increaee of one shilling per day, but the facts of the case are these : the men were not paid on Saturday afternoon, and have not yet been able to obtain payment for the last fortnight’s work, and not liking this treatment they will not return to work till paid, and now only at twelve shillings per day. As the report of the ‘ Times ’ threw the blame entirely on the workmen, you will much oblige them by inserting this.—Yours &c., James Edwards, Chairman of Laborers’ Society Port Chalmers, August 18.
