WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held yesterday; present—the Chiet Commissioner, Messrs Bntterwortb, Bastings, and Strode.
Messrs John and Allan M'Lean applied for a license under the 161et clause of the Act to occupy an island in the Waitaki river opposite their property, and situated in blocks 6, 7, and 8, Papakia district. Rancer to assess the annual value, Mr George Do >son, Port Chalmers, applied for a license under the 161st clause of the Act to occupy section 50, block 5, North Harbor and B.ueekin, for pasturage purposes. Declined. Mr John Snow, secretary to the Nevis Public Library Committee, applied for a a 9 uar ter of an acre as a site for a library. The Board decided that it had no power. Ihe Chief Commissioner asked to have the upset price of sections 29, 30, 31, block 31, Havelock, fixed. Referred back to Dis trick Land Officer for his further inquiry and advice. Reconsideration ef application by Mr Wm. Buchanan for a lease under the 161st clause of the Act for part of section 40, block 2 North Harbor and Blueskin district, for the purpose of erecting a fish-curing establishment. License to be purchased under the 161st clause Waste Land Act, 1872, at LI per Acre. Applications for land at LI per acre :—Mi Jame* Cameron, sections 17 and 18, block 7, Waitahuna East (approved) ; Mr Angus M‘Dermid, seccions 43 and 44, block 2, Tuapeka West (approved) ; Mr George vfathe sou section 22, block 4, Tu.apeka Last (refused). Applications for exchange of agricultural for deferred payment leases: —Mr Jas Chalmers, sections 19 and 101, block 5, .Shot over (approved) ; Mr Wm. Paterson, sections 2 3, 12, and 55, block 6, Shotover (approved). 1 The report of the District 1 ngincer on the application to purchase or lease section 39, blocs 2, vVaikouaiti district, was read License to be granted under 161st clause Waste Land Act, 1872, reserving right cf Government to quarry stone. The District officer transmitted, list of survey fees paid by defeired payment purchasers, and requests the Board to decide amount to be repaid each applicant. List oi fees approved.
Consideration of application by Mr John M ■ arlane to have the tenure of his lease lengthened or to be allowed to purchase land at Coast district, block 5. Consideration postponed for two months.
Ihe District officer at Qieenstown forwarded license No. 607 in favor of Mr Thos Fern Moffatt, who had not attended in teims of a notice served on him on June 30 last, to execute the license, and asked whether the Bo »rd would declare the he nse forfeited in terms of the 52nd clause of the Act. lo be advertised as again open for application, in accordanc * with the terms of clause 52 8, Mr (hj F. C. Browne protested against the sale of sections 39. 30. and 31, block 31, Havelock, recently applied for by Mr J, “■ Ka J\ aQ d decided to be exposed for sale by auction. Noted A proviso was ordered to be inserted in deferred payment leases (exchanged from agricultural leases) where part of the laud alienated is required for a line of rai way passing through it for approval ©f the Board. Approved, . Hu gh Crossan applied to purchase sections 25 and 26, block 1, Chain Hill district, rT a ß r * cu^iura, l lease, and asked whether the Board would recommend Government to allow the rent paid- on the refused parts of sections 25 and 26, to count as part of purchase money of other parts now called sections 5S and 69. Approved according to the recommendations of the Warden and passed by Government.
The report of the District Land Officer at Naseby on an application by Mr John Gil; for compensation for land recently occupied by him at Hyde, and purchased by Mr M. Connelly, was submitted Noted. Mr Robert Johnstone, of Blackstone Hill, requested the Board now to deal witb his application of Hill’s Creek, the runholdor'a consent having been obtained. Survey to be submitted to the Board for consideration. The secretary to the Macraes Progress Committee inquired when block I Macraes, will be advertised open for application, as several persons are willing to purchase and settle upon it. Referred to Government. Several plans of unsurveyed applications were submitted for the Hoard’s approval.
